Golf Classic Tallies Hole in One!
By Ellen Salas, October 23, 2006
With "all goals met and exceeded," according to club president Don Sheppard, the First Annual LAFC Golf Classic on October 23rd let everyone know that we are a club that works together to accomplish great things for our players, families, and the community.
"The biggest message of the day was that we’re a club, not individual teams. What we do as a club is for all of us, the LAFC family," said Sheppard.
While the original monetary goal of the tournament, dinner, and auction was $30,000, the total profit for the day’s festivities surpassed the $80,000 mark. This tremendous success was the result of participation across the board: every team did something to make the Classic a positive event!
Thanks to the participation of so many people, 36 foursomes contributed to the fundraising; corporate sponsorships and tee sponsorships were oversold; $11,000 came from cash donations, and a handsome sum—not to mention a whole lot of fun—was generated from the silent and live auctions.
The profit from the Classic will go to two main targets: player scholarships and fields. Because the $1500 annual fee for each player covers only operating expenses, the biggest percentage of which are coaches’ salaries, fundraising is the key to LAFC’s being able to offer scholarships.
Those who played golf and attended the dinner were in agreement that the day was all about winners—great golf, a beautiful setting, a fun auction, an auctioneer extraordinaire, delicious food—and a great cause!
Thank you to LAFC families and our friends in the community for helping us make a hole in one! We hope to see everyone on the greens next year for the Second Annual LAFC Golf Classic. |
