2008 Nomads Thanksgiving Tournament Champions
The Mighty Bronze Team That Could
The LAFC GU14 White (Chavez) Team Defeated Five
Top-Level Teams to Become the Nomads 2008 Champions

After taking second place in their pool, the LAFC GU14 White team advanced to the final round by defeating two Cal North “Gold” teams (Capitol Premier League)—including one in a penalty shootout. In the Championship game, LAFC White faced the Eagles Blue—a very respectable and much bigger Silver Elite North team. After 60 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, the teams were tied 1-1, sending the girls to their second shootout in two days. With 3 saves and 4 accurate drives to the back of the net, LAFC White emerged the Champions.

CONGRATULATIONS Champions. A title well deserved.

My daughter (Erinn) told me Saturday morning before the game just to qualify for the Saturday afternoon quarterfinal game “Dad I think you better book the room for another night.” I laughed at her and said “But you’re playing GOLD teams!” She said “Just book the room Dad!!!”. So I did. Do you believe in miracles?!!!!

OMG! That weekend was one of the happiest in my life. I’m oh so very proud of all my “girlies” and loved to see all of our parents happy. We did it, we beat the odds, and did it. Not only did we prove our spirit and determination, but we proved of love for the game and showed ALL who doubted us. Once again, I am so proud of you guys and hope you have a nice break. LOTS OF LOVE!!! Congratulations!

Great job girls! You never gave up and you kept pressing forward. Hold on to the moment and remember to always work hard even if all the odds are against you!
So proud!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful team. I understand that many of your players have worked for four years to acheive that next level of silver…this even after the annual “tryouts” where many of your “better” players have left. Second in your league with only one loss and only 3 goals allowed. A petition for Silver is a formality and now the Nomads tournament! Your goal of silver is certainly achieved. No conscientious club or adult would deprive kids of this achievement. Certainly not a club that is concerned with not only the skill level it develops but the character of its young men and women. Yes your team may be desolved in favor of a Gold team seeking greener pastures (fields) but your achievement of silver should not be. As you proved in the Nomads Tournament, you are better than Gold - you are Platinum

Great Job! You got the girls to believe, play smart, and execute!
