We had a great championship game this weekend at the Orange County Kick Off Classic in Irvine. We won 3 games and went to the Championship game against San Clemente and won again 5-1. A great way to get ready to kick off the CSL season! Coach Victor did a super coaching job and the boys had a good time (we borrowed Rony and Eric from Charles team since Daivon and Laurence Coke were on vacation).
LAFC Chelsea GU9 Won the Brea Kickoff Classic! To get to the championship game we beat Freedom FC 2-1, South Bay Forse 5-0, and Cypress Elite 1-0. The girls played extremely well in the 90 degree heat to win the Championship game against the Pateadores 3-1.
This says it all for this last minute, thrown together team: 5 Games, 29 Goals, 4 Goals Against
Literally a team put together at the last minute as teams often are during the final months of summer, this team met their coach, their new weekend teammates and never looked back. Their wins were easy in pool play, beating one team 10-zip, but they met challenges in the semi-final and final matches.
They stuck with it despite fatigue and put their minds to winning and a BIG WIN IT WAS.
Congrats to the ’94 Boys!
LAFC Chelsea GU17 Black, led by Coach Esteban Chavez, won the United Cup 2009 U17 Championship in San Juan Capistrano. All goals in pool play were scored by forward Marissa Manzano and the team did not give up a single goal heading into the Championship match with outstanding defensive play by goalie Kayce Perkins and defenders Taylor Mediano, Maria Benitez, Briana Galvez and Linnea Herren. After falling behind 1-0 midway through the first half during the championship match the team pushed themselves and Coach Chavez changed the formation to rally and win the Championship 5-1. Coach Chavez handed out the medals and said, “With missing players, injuries and being forced to play with only 10, most teams would have given up. But you girls showed real character and heart to push yourselves and play great to win the Championship. I am very proud of you.”
Talk about having a target on your back — our LAFC Chelsea BU13 had the biggest one possible going into their favorite tournament of the summer, Surf Cup ‘09. After a finalist performance as U10’s and winners back to back as U11 and U12s, Coach Barry Ritson and the boys knew it would take a monumental effort this year to repeat past victories. Bracketed with national powerhouses Chicago Magic and Dallas Texans, the boys were up for the test and won their pool handily, they ended up in the Championship game. Two players down but with resolve to win, they did, 5-1 putting LAFC BU13 back in the #1 spot in the nation according to Gotsoccer rankings.
