LAFC and LAFC Black Dominate Prestigious Cal Cup Tournament & Face Each Other In Finals
February 28, 2008
With a combined goal differential of 29 to 1 with 9 shutouts against 10 opponents, the two LAFC GU11 teams (LAFC and LAFC Black) dominated the prestigious California Cup tournament only to face each other in the final. So on a cold, wet and windy Sunday morning, the sister teams faced off in San Bernardino.
It was a tight defensive struggle for most of the first half, since the two teams often train together and know each other’s formations and tactics. LAFC drew first blood on a penalty kick just before the half to lead 1-0. Black fought back hard and created some opportunities against the tough possession style of LAFC. LAFC scored a second goal about mid-way through the second half to put them up 2-0. Black continued to press the attack and scored their first goal late in the game only to have it called back for a final score of 2-0.
It was a tremendous showcase for the two LAFC GU11 teams and their parents and coaches are very proud of them.
